AL Capone is hands-down the most known and probably most successful gangster in America's history.
Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a rough neighborhood and was involved with gang activity as a kid. Capone then moved to Chicago in 1919 to work for John Torrio. Torrio soon realized how smart and tough Capone was and eventually named Capone his number 2 man. But Torrio left Chicago which left AL Capone as the boss. He ran the organization so well, that by 1930 he was making an income of about $100,000,000 a year. He ran all the major nightclubs, speakeasiess, brothels, and brewries in town.

But soon Capone would be run out of Chicago. Capone had been doing buisness with the mayor of Chicago, William Hale Thompson. Thompson after a while finally decided working with Capone was bad for his political image so he hired a new police cheif to run him out of town. Capone then moved and bought an estate in Palm Island, Florida.

Although Capone was a marked man by almost every rival gang or law official, but he wouldn't go down. He had a very big spy network in Chicago which even included the police. He was also a mastermind at setting up hits on people. His most "famous" killing was the valentines day massacre, on febuary 14, 1929. It was a massacre, as capones men killed 7, 6 from a rival gang and another being just a friend at the wrong place at the wrong time. But Capone went down. Not for murder or any gang activty, but for tax evasion. He was indicted in 1931, owing $215,080 to the governement. He was sentenced to ten years in federal and 1 year in county jail. After his prison term, he died of cardiac arrest on January 25, 1947. He is remembered as the greatest gangster ever in the U.S., maybe even the world.
